In honor of Eye Donation Month, we created a video to talk about all aspects of eye donation from donation to surgery and recovery. Alyssa A. Hernandez, SDS Eye Bank Director of Marketing and Development hosts several guests with a connection to eye donation and transplantation. Joel Smith, DCIDS SR Director of Tissue Services and recent cornea donor family member, speaks about his mother’s story and how he went about donation. Dr. Jennifer Li, our Medical Director and Director of Cornea and External Disease Service as well as Professor of the Department of Ophthalmology and Vision Science at UC Davis Health shares her expertise on the cornea transplantation process. In addition, Rita Hawks, a 2-time cornea recipient, shares how she is blessed to see life through a new lens.
