Eye Bank Orientation

With UC Davis and California Pacific Medical Center (CPMC)

On Sunday, August 18, we had the privilege of hosting an Orientation to Eye Banking for UC Davis and California Pacific Medical Center (CPMC). In attendance from UC Davis was, Dr. Jennifer Li (our Co-Medical Director), Cornea Fellow Dr. Bohan Xing, and 3 medical students. In attendance from CPMC was Dr. Matthew Denny, 2 residents and 2 medical students.

The day consisted of a presentation to learn more about how our organization facilitates donation, recovery of corneal tissue, preparation for transplantation, distribution of tissue and our communication with recipients and donor families. Our team prepared a few demonstrations that included ocular recovery and DMEK processing to show the intricacies of our daily work. We also provided a tour of our facility that allowed all to see where we process tissue, and they were able to evaluate tissue through our microscopes.

We are pleased to have our Sacramento, CA facility centrally located to multiple hospitals studying ophthalmology and with a focus of cornea. If you or your team are interested in learning more about the process of donation as well as cornea recovery, processing and distribution, we would be honored to have you tour our facility.
