Our team welcomed the UC Davis Ophthalmology cornea team to our office for an Orientation to Eye Banking. In attendance were surgery schedulers, technicians, and administrative staff that work with our eye bank daily, but did not know the intricacies of our work.  

The day consisted of a presentation to learn more about how our organization facilitates donation, recovery of corneal tissue, preparation for transplantation, distribution of tissue and our communication with recipients and donor families.  

Our team prepared a DMEK processing demonstration and whole globes for each of them to dissect. This was the first time for all of them to be able to have this type of hands-on orientation and they were very appreciative of it. We also provided a tour of our facility that allows them to see where we process tissue, and they were able to evaluate tissue through our microscopes.
