Diversity, Equity & Inclusion at SDSEB

From our caring staff to the patients and donors we serve, our dedication to diversity, equity, and inclusion impacts everything we do.

Our commitment to DEI

At Sierra Donor Services Eye Bank (SDSEB), we strive for all communities to feel welcome and safe with us as we reflect a model of fairness, belonging, and forward thinking. We are committed to ensuring all levels of our workplace represent the diverse communities we serve. Our resources also reflect our commitment to increased equity in transplantation and donor acceptance.

The importance of donor diversity

A diverse population of donors is crucial because of ongoing disparities and increased rates of organ failure among communities of color. While everyone is a universal donor for corneal tissue and demographics don’t play a role in matching donors and recipients, it’s more likely for members of the same race or ethnicity to match for organ transplants when they share key criteria, including blood type. Additionally, studies show that transplant success rates increase when organs are matched between members of the same ethnic and racial group. People of all ages, races and ethnic backgrounds are encouraged to say “yes” to donation.
